URBAN BLOCK 14
Hatay, the city of Antakya is in an important position with its rich historical texture and cultural heritage. However, the effects of past earthquakes on the city have caused it to lose some of this wealth. In this context, the proposed architectural project for the city of Antakya, Hatay aims to increase the livability and sustainability of the city by bringing history and modernity together.
The project aims to strengthen not only physical structures but also social ties. The effort to preserve the city’s history and integrate it with its rich cultural heritage involves not only a visual transformation, but also a process that will allow residents to establish a stronger connection with their identity.
Among the main objectives of the project is to strengthen the infrastructure in the city, to fill the gaps that emerged after the earthquakes and to make the city more livable. In addition, by emphasizing the social effects of the project, increasing solidarity within the neighborhood and strengthening neighborhood relations are among the priority objectives.
The design elements of the project aim to contribute to city life. The permeable courtyard aims to strengthen social bonds by offering open and interactive spaces to city dwellers. Sustainable energy sources, such as solar panels and rainwater harvesting, are a primary focus of the project in terms of environmental sustainability. Durable structures, on the other hand, aim to provide a safe environment against earthquake risk.
In the analysis and planning processes, the master plan and detailed human-scale analyses have provided important data in order to produce solutions suitable for the needs of the city. While the commercial areas on the ground floors aim to strengthen the dynamics of the city by supporting the economic revival, the residential areas on the upper floors offer a modern and comfortable life, promising a quality life experience to the residents of the city.
The commercial areas and residential blocks in the project are positioned in such a way that they do not cut down the existing trees. In the analysis and planning processes, it was ensured that the design respects the natural habitats of the trees, taking into account the species, growth potentials and ecosystems of the trees in the area.
This comprehensive project aims to bring not only a physical transformation to the city of Antakya, Hatay, but also to provide a social and cultural revival. Efforts to preserve the historic texture have the potential to bridge the past and future in the city, offering residents a proud identity. The sustainability and social solidarity elements that stand out in the project represent the steps of Hatay, Antakya to become a strong and livable city in the future.
