ATATURK PARK

ATATURK PARK

ATATÜRK PARKI

Introduction
Atatürk Park, considered as an important memorial area for Antakya, serves as a significant social and recreational space for the public. The park holds particular significance for the people of Antakya and features a wide range of amenities including a swimming pool and various sports facilities. Suggestions for the renovation and development of Atatürk Park include:

1. Swimming Pool and Surroundings:
The swimming pool within Atatürk Park has been preserved as an important memorial area for the residents of Antakya. The surroundings of the pool have been strengthened to provide a suitable environment for various sports activities and social events.

2. Urban Pocket:
The void created by the demolition of buildings on Gündüz Street has been evaluated as an urban pocket hosting social areas and workshops. This urban pocket has been integrated with the urban axis coming from the north of the park, creating an organic unity with Atatürk Park.

3. Stone Structure and Interaction:
The existing stone structure in the area has been planned to interact with other structures beneath the pocket, aiming to bring together social areas while preserving the character of the region.

4. Preservation and Enhancement of Greenery
The existing tree texture in Atatürk Park has been preserved and complemented with new green spaces. Greenery has been increased on both sides of the stream axis, and the voids created by demolished residential areas have been transformed into green spaces. This aims to maintain the park’s place in the urban memory while offering visitors a greener area.
