MASTER PLAN

Hatay stands out as a city that bears the traces of different civilizations like a cultural mosaic. This wealth has been shaped by the cultural heritage of the communities that have lived in the city throughout history. In addition to this multi-layered cultural structure embraced by Hatay, it has combined with its strategic location, geographical structure, energy potential and trade activities to make the city a regional actor.

However, the Kahramanmaraş-focused earthquake on February 6th, 2023 deeply affected Hatay and revealed the need to restructure the city. This project aims at cultural and economic revival by highlighting the potentials of Hatay after this difficult process.

The master plan study will make a significant contribution to the goal of making Hatay a more resilient, environmentally friendly and sustainable city. The closure of the river beds to construction and the evaluation of green bands aim to create a livable environment by protecting the ecosystem of the city.

Protecting the main arterial tracks and rehabilitating the roads will regulate mobility within the city. With the transfer of administrative structures from the city centre to the peripheries, it is aimed to use urban areas in a more balanced way and to reduce the density of central regions.

It is aimed to turn Köprübaşı Square, where the historical city and the new city meet, into a cultural centre. The functions of the buildings in and around the square have been reconsidered in accordance with this idea. Traces and ruins of Rome are occupied by the city today. It is aimed to remove the structures built on these ruins, to evaluate and protect them as archaeological sites.

Strengthened public transportation decisions and system parking lots to be located in appropriate locations will reduce traffic problems and strengthen the transportation infrastructure of the city.
